On September 3, 2003 Expatica ran an Agence France-Presse story that reported: "Fundamentalist Muslims incarcerated in French prisons for crimes linked to extremism have been increasingly trying to convert fellow inmates to Islam since the September 11 attacks in the United States, the director of a Paris pentitentiary said Friday. Pierre Raffin, who was made the director of the Sante prison in Paris after running several other jails, told an official commission looking into religion and its role in French secular public life that the proselytism was 'insidious' and hard to stamp out."
