With Ramadan ending in the coming days, Imam Habeeb Alli is making a special point of what he calls the greatest act of charity a Muslim can make during this holy month – signing an organ donor card.
"We cannot ignore this duty to donate our organs," says Alli, secretary of the Canadian Council of Imams.
Throughout the year, at various Toronto-area mosques where he is asked to speak, Alli has talked about organ donation from a Muslim perspective, and implored those gathered to consider leaving some of their organs, or other tissue, once they die.
"This is one of the greatest charities we can do," he says, adding that Ramadan, which ends Monday, emphasizes charitable giving.
