On February 11, 2005 The Associated Press reported, "a pagan celebration in Missouri has been moved to another site after the original hotel in backed out. Members of the Ozark Avalon Church of Nature-Wicca are gathering this weekend in Columbia to mark the Wiccan holiday celebrating the transition from winter to spring. They planned to meet at the Hannibal Inn. But high priestess Rose Wise says she received a letter last month saying their reservation was canceled. Wise says managers were afraid of protesters. The hotel won't comment. An [A.C.L.U.] lawyer says the situation sounds like a form of religious discrimination. As many as 150 pagans are expected to take part in the celebrations. Wise says she had no problem getting rooms at another hotel."
