Ravinder Singh Bhalla, who is running for Hoboken, N. J., city councilman, hopes to ride the Obama wave in his which voters trumped race over issues, and perhaps this time religion too.
If he wins the council member at-large seat in the May 12 election, he will have the national distinction of holding the highest elected office as a Sikh. And what about the beard and turban?
“People care lot more about your position on issue than what you look like,” Ravinder Singh said in a phone interview last week from his office. He said he has a good shot at this election.
