"Hip" Teenagers Embrace Meditation

On October 11, 2003 Star-Telegram reported that teens are following a nationwide trend of embracing meditation as a way to fight stress. The heightened interest in meditation by teens may be linked to the fact that the practice has achieved mainstream "hip status." According to author and meditation instructor Diana Winston, meditation can help teenagers fight eating disorders and quit smoking marijuana. Perhaps its greatest draw is an appeal to all religions, as "meditation isn't the exclusive domain of Eastern theology or, for that matter, religion. Some practitioners don't follow any particular religion. Others are in mainstream Christianity"
