On July 27, 2006 Hindu Press International published a press release by Datuk A. Vaithilingam Chairman Special Committee on Temples and President Malaysia Hindu Sangam: "The first meeting of the City Hall Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) Liaison Committee Regarding Places of Worship (non-Muslims) was held on Monday this week at the DBKL...The meeting comprising various officials of the DBKL, FT Land Office, Malaysia Hindu Sangam Special Temples Committee, MIC [Malaysian Indian Congress] and MCA [Malaysian Chinese Association] discussed a system or formula to conduct a survey of places of worship and their status so as to find solutions to the problem of location or other technical matters pertaining to their status. The meeting agreed that all parties will study the proposals and decide in two weeks the formula. It was agreed that all notices issued for places of worship to be demolished will be put on hold. The meeting agreed that proper authorities will initially give a notice of information that the place of worship is being considered for relocation or demolition because of development, thus giving the temple a chance to state their stand on why the temple should not be demolished. This will then be forwarded to the MHS Special Committee to study and liaise with the temples concerned. This Special Committee will then discuss with the Main Committee which will be chaired by the Director General DBKL. Any request from the temple will also be considered at this meeting."
