With green- and yellow-tinted powder smeared on her cheeks, Rhea Kumar, 8, bent in intense concentration as she filled her squirt gun with water and giggled with glee as she turned and squirted anyone within range.

Rhea, of Weston, and about 400 other South Florida Hindus congregated on March 23 at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines to partake in an ancient Indian celebration of spring known as Holi.

The two-day celebration falls on the full moon in late February or March and begins with chanting prayers. Participants dance around a bonfire that symbolizes the burning of Holika, a female demon.
