On December 16, 2004 Billerica Minuteman reported, "proponents of a new Hindu temple are resubmitting a plan to build near the Concord River, prompting the same concerns about flooding that were raised when the project came before the Board of Health two years ago. Health Director Richard Berube said the board has asked the proponents, - Om. Temple Inc., a volunteer organization - to submit the plan to an engineering review. Berube said, '99 percent of the property falls within a flood plain.' He added, 'They certainly have a long road to follow in terms of regulations. It's an extremely difficult site. You can't just displace flood water to another property.' The board will consider the project again at a meeting set for Monday, January third... Civil Engineer Kanayo Lala, who is representing the volunteer organization, said Om Temple Inc. is a Hindu organization that has erected temples in Dracut and Lowell. Lala said the temples serve as community and education centers."
