RICHFIELD, Ohio (Map, News) - Plans are under way for the construction of a Hindu temple in the Akron and Cleveland area.

The zoning commission in the northeast Ohio city of Richfield is reviewing preliminary plans for the Sree Venkateswara (ven-KHAT-is-swar-ah) Temple of Cleveland.

Dr. Ram Bandi, president of the local Hindu community, says the temple is long overdue. The closet temple with Sree Venkateswara as the presiding deity is in Pittsburgh.
