On September 22, 2005 a Hindu Temple of Irving press release reported, "DFW Hindu Temple has offered to establish a shelter on the Hindu Temple premises that could temporarily house as many as 500 people who have fled the devastation of Hurricane Rita. The shelter at the DFW Hindu Temple is ready to accept the evacuees from the Hurricane Rita at this point of time. A 24-hour command post has been established at the Hindu Temple to help evacuees with direction and facilities."
