Livermore officials have approved the expansion of a Hindu temple but with restrictions that the city attorney warns could be viewed as discriminatory.
After hundreds of residents turned up for a five-hour debate, the city council on Monday approved the request by the Shiva-Vishnu Hindu Temple to expand a 31,000-square-foot assembly hall and add two new buildings.
The approval came with restrictions that would prevent the use of amplifiers to increase the sound level for music, prayer or sermons held outdoors.
