The Hindu temple of Rochester took more than 20 years to complete, has become a major achievement for the city.

Twenty years ago, Dhananjaya Shetty would never have thought the temple was possible. Over a million dollars later, the Hindu temple of Rochester makes it mark in our city.

President of the Hindu temple Shetty said, "I think for the community in general this is a very important place because we have religion, education and culture.”

When Shetty came to Rochester from India in the 60s—there was no place for him to worship.

By 1986, the plans to build the temple were in order. Over the next few decades, the temple was built in stages. The community raised every dollar.

"Money keeps coming,” Shetty said. “If you do the project, I don't think it's a problem. People are very supportive of the project.”

Last month, construction was finished on the new entrance way--opening doors for Rochester worshippers.
