Tucked behind the trees, off Chapel Hill road in northwest Cary, construction workers are rushing to finish a new Hindu temple.

"This temple is one of its kind in North America," Bhaskar Venepalli, chairman of the board for the Venkateswara Temple, said.

Modeled after a temple in India, the Cary version costs more than $3.4 million which was all raised completely through donations.

"People donate on a voluntary basis, based on their needs and their affordability," Venepalli said.

Hindu people worship many gods and most Hindu temples in America are built to house all of them, Venepalli said.

"The uniqueness of this temple is that we'll have only one god," he said.
