On September 27, 2004 Columbia Spectator reported, "Columbia University students arose early on Saturday morning, inspired by the words of Mahatma Gandhi: 'You must be the change you wish to see in the world.' South Asian campus groups organized service projects in memory of Gandhi's social activism as part of the National Gandhi Day of Service, organized by the South Asian Leaders of Tomorrow. Club Zamana and the Hindu Students Organization worked together to obtain co-sponsorships and facilitate volunteer projects."
