Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed has extolled Church of England for its decision to allow women bishops, calling it a 'step in the right direction'.
This decision was arrived at a July 9-13 meeting of General Synod (parliament) of the Church at York University (United Kingdom). Final draft and approval will be probably made in General Synod of 2012.
Earlier, women could be ordained as priests but were barred from holding office of bishop.
