Bay Area residents crowded the Shiva-Vishnu Temple in Livermore on Saturday for the Geeta Jayanti, a celebration of the Bhagawad Geeta, the most well-known and respected texts of Hinduism.

It was Shri Krishna, an incarnation of the god Vishnu and a great warrior, who gave the holy sermon of the book, which was written more than 5,000 years ago, said Prabha Duneja, who helped organize the seventh annual event at the temple.

"This is the book (that says) we should learn to live in peace and harmony in ourselves, in society and nature," Duneja said.

Organizers were expecting as many as 2,000 people throughout the day, drawn from all over the Bay Area.
