Ancient Hindu scriptures will be read tonight for the invocation at the start of the Yuba City City Council meeting, among six cities where Hindu leader Rajan Zed is reading Sanskrit scriptures.

Nevada resident Zed noted some cities such as San Francisco and Sacramento do not have invocations at council meetings.

He delivered the invocation at the Lincoln City Council meeting April 27 and began by saying, "We meditate on the transcendental Glory of the Deity Supreme, who is inside the heart of the earth, inside the life of the sky and inside the soul of Heaven."

Pat Avila, city clerk for Lincoln, said, "The invocation went just fine."

Zed will also read from the scriptures at the start of council meetings in Bakersfield, Modesto, Fresno and Henderson, Nev.
