Hindus in Reading will be celebrated on Sunday as they reopened the main entrance to their temple after it was refurbished.

Work has been carried out to modernise the century-old former Methodist chapel in Whitley Street, Katesgrove, so it will comply with health and safety regulations.

The work is a first phase which will eventually lead to the creation of a new prayer hall within the temple with the white carvings and statues typical of a Hindu mandir.

Dr Ashok Khare, chairman of Reading Hindu Centre, explained the first phase of the work had to be done to sort out the ancient electrical wiring and drainage in the 105-year-old building.
