On February 27, 2006 the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation reported, "The Hindu Council of Kenya has embarked on a school-feeding programme targeting public schools in drought-hit areas in the country. The programme that started two weeks ago in Kijiado, aims at retaining pupils in schools despite the ravaging famine in several parts of the country. Addressing recipients of part of the 300 tones of high nutrition Unimix during a distribution exercise at Munyunu Primary school in Mwingi South, the Hindu Council Chairman Rashmin Chitnis said the project will continue until the famine situation in the country eases."
