Christian and Hindu leaders singed a joint declaration New Delhi Oct. 8 calling for an end to violence and the promotion of interfaith dialogue between Hindus and Christians.

The statement was singed after a meeting of Christian leaders such as Archbishops of New Delhi and Cuttuck-Bhubaneswar met with Hindu leader Chidanand Saraswati at opposition leader L. K. Advani’s residence.

The statement, among several suggestions, supported a dialogue between Hindus and Christians on all aspects of life “including the issue of conversion.”

The statement comes in the wake of an ongoing violence against Christians in Orissa that has claimed more than 50 lives, destroyed dozens of churches and homes, and forced thousands into government-run camps.
