On January 1, 2005 INDIA New England News reported, "a little more than 10 years ago, Tej Tanden chanced upon some real estate on the banks of the Concord River in Billerica that was selling at a reasonable price. He bought the 10 acres not knowing, at the time, what he planned to do with it. After a few years, the Tanden family decided to build a temple on the land... Now the temple construction is going through its approval process. The building committee will present its plans to the Billerica Board of Health on Jan. 3, and Tanden is encouraging members of the Indian-American community to show up and support the project... According to Tanden, initial hearings were postponed because adequate land usage to compensate for the flood plains had not been set out properly. The building committee has since worked in tandem with the town engineer and the plans meet all requirements for approval."
