On April 3, 2005 The Boston Globe reported, "with swords gleaming and music booming, followers of Sikhism will parade down Route 109 next Sunday to celebrate one of the Indian religion's major holidays. The procession from Milford through Medway to Millis will commemorate the Sikh holy day of Baisakhi and will involve hundreds of Sikhs, as well as US Representative Barney Frank and other dignitaries... The event is one indication of the growing Indian presence in the western suburbs and throughout Massachusetts. From 1990 to 2000, the population of Indian-Americans in the state more than doubled, from 18,000 to 41,000, according to the US Census."
