On November 9, 2005 the Hartford Courant reported, "The Interfaith Coalition for Equity and Justice is sponsoring a forum on racism, with a panel that includes the Rev. Alvan N. Johnson, the former chairman of the organization who quit in April charging that the organization was plagued by institutional racism. Racism can be a stumbling block even for people who fight against it, said the Rev. Jesse White, who became chairman of the interfaith coalition after Johnson's departure... The free forum, called 'Challenging the Structures of Racism,' will feature civil rights and public policy analyst John Powell as the keynote speaker Thursday [in Hartford]... White and other coalition leaders plan to propose specific actions that people can take in response to issues raised at the forum."
