On February 1, 2003 The Hartford Courant reported that "more than 30 churches, synagogues and mosques have joined together to create a faith-based coalition that aims to tackle problems related to poverty, race, economics and development in the Hartford [CT] area... The Greater Hartford Interfaith Coalition for Equity and Justice is the culmination of a two-year effort to unite diverse congregations in communication and cooperation. During a covenant ceremony Thursday night at Center Church in Hartford, members of the coalition lit candles as a symbol of their commitment to work together to resolve problems... Coalition members also include Asylum Hill Congregational Church of Hartford; Immanuel United Church of Christ, Hartford; Metropolitan AME Zion Church, Hartford; First Church of Christ in Windsor; St. Augustine Church, Hartford; and New Hope Hispanic Christian Church, East Hartford."
