On February 3, 2005 The Tribune reported, "Excitement gripped prominent Sikh leaders and other members of the community after the news of the Gujarat Government’s decision to restore holiday on Gurpurab reached here. The holiday was restored in less than a week after a report regarding its cancellation and demand for restoration was carried in these columns. For celebrating the development, members of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) organised a function at Law Bhavan. About 300 members of the Sikh Sangat, gathered on the spot and distributed 'ladoos.' Among them was first woman pilot Beant Kaur and her sister Satwant Kaur. Addressing a gathering, Ms Beant Kaur said India was a secular country and decisions like cancelling holidays on gurpurab was unjustified."
