On January 26, 2006 The Ithacan reported, "Ithaca College is one of 33 colleges and universities in the country to host a specialist this semester through a government program intended to promote understanding of the Muslim world. Mohammed Zin Nordin, an associate professor and dean of the School of Communication at the University Sains Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia, will be in Ithaca through Feb. 8 teaching a mini- course titled Media and Malaysia and participating in several community and campus events. Funding to bring Nordin to the college came from a grant through the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Nordin is a participant in the Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program: Direct Access to the Muslim World, which is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. Nordin’s mini-course is designed to examine the connections between the media, religion and government of Malaysia."
