On May 6, 2004 the Sarawak Tribune reported, "Buddhists are urged to practise the teachings of the Buddha and make them part of their daily lives. Speaking at a Wesak Day celebration here, Assistant Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation Datuk Sim Kheng Hui also stressed that the teachings of Buddha, like selflessness were the keys to a clean society. He urged Buddhists societies in the state to work closely together to promote Buddhism throughout the year and not only during Wesak Day. Twenty-five Buddhist organisations in the city took part in a joint Wesak Day celebration organised by the Sarawak Branch of the Malaysian Buddhist Association."
