On June 3, 2005 the Asian Tribune reported, "The Norwegian government has refused to allow more tolerant religious studies in its education system despite the strong criticism of the country’s rigid religious education curriculum. The Norwegian parliament has rejected the proposal for amending the religious curriculum despite the severe criticism of the current curriculum by the United Nations Human Rights Commission... The [popular Norwegian daily, Dagsavisen] reported that the Parliament ignored the advice from Muslims in Norway, Oslo Municipality and the Norwegian Humanist Association, and says ‘no’ to a more balanced Christian Knowledge and Religious and Ethical Education (CRREE) subject. The Parliament supports the Government’s proposal for changes in the disputed CRREE subject – changes the critics do not believe go far enough. Yesterday all the parties in the Education Committee went in for the Government’s plan. The United Nation’s Human Rights Committee has criticized the CRREE subject because it has been too difficult to get exemption, and because the subject can seem to be preaching, the Dagsavisen added."
