On April 21, 2006 The Hoya reported, "College Dean Jane McAuliffe met with student representatives from various faith-based organizations to discuss campus inter-religious activities Tuesday in McShain Lounge.

McAuliffe outlined interfaith initiatives new to Georgetown, including PhD programs in religious pluralism and Islamic studies, as well as the establishment of the university’s SFS-Qatar campus.

Students from the Interfaith Council, an organization created last year under GUSA, were also present to discuss the university’s efforts to promote religious understanding.

IFC member Julia Stein (COL ’06) said that the IFC was specifically created in response to campus incidents of religious intolerance, such as the desecration of a menorah in Red Square last year. Over the past year the council has tried to prevent such intolerance by educating students through religiously diverse retreats, interfaith prayer services and open dialogue.

Though the organization has experienced growth this past year with the promotion of the online Bias Related Incident Reporting System and last month’s 'flash mob' campaign against discrimination, the council needs to continue to expand its membership, according to IFC co-chair Hafsa Kanjwal (SFS ’08)."
