On October 12, 2002 Mercury News reported that "the Fremont [CA] Sikh temple, one of the largest in the country, has been a hotbed of litigious activity, with rival factions suing one another over who should head the congregation. A judge settled one legal dispute between two camps over temple elections in July. But last month, a third faction filed a lawsuit demanding that anyone should be able to be elected to the five-man Supreme Council, not just the limited number of baptized Sikhs. The latest lawsuit is the fourth since 1996 seeking a judge's ruling on leadership at the Gurdwara Sahib of Fremont."
