On May 10, 2005 The Independent reported, "Four more people have been killed in the ongoing unrest in Thailand's Muslim-majority south, where a separatist insurgency has raged since early last year, police said Tuesday.

Villager Bueraheng Kla, 26, was shot early Tuesday in the Ra-ngae district of Narathiwat province by an unknown number of gunmen, dying later in the district hospital, police said.

In the same district on Monday evening, another villager, Abdulloh Matahea, was shot by an unknown assailant using a machine gun at his house, killing him instantly, they added.

'Police are investigating the motives for the killing,' police said in a statement.

The deaths of the two villagers comes after two Thai civil servants were shot and killed on Tuesday, bringing to at least 660 the number of people killed in near-daily attacks since an Islamic separatist insurgency broke out in the predominantly Buddhist kingdom in January 2004."
