Separation of church and state advocates are speaking out against a bill before Massachusetts lawmakers aimed at protecting students who talk about religion in public school.

They say the bill wrongly creates time during various school events, including graduation, for students to proselytize if they wish.

Ronal Madnick of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State said students have every right to talk about religion in school, but not when people of different beliefs are a "captive audience" — such as a during a graduation.
