On May 26, 2003 the Palm Beach Post reported that "two Buddhist monks and about 40 followers, mostly Thai, gathered Sunday at John Prince Park in suburban Lake Worth [FL] for prayers and a picnic... They were celebrating Visakhabucha, a triple holiday commemorating Buddha's birth, enlightenment and entrance to Nirvana, a state of perfect peace... The local Buddhist families support the Mahadhatujetiyaram Temple in Palm Springs... A relatively small group, they hold their larger ceremonies in parks and borrowed spaces until they can collect enough money to build a temple, which they hope will be this year."
