On March 18, 2006 the Hindu Society of South Australia Newsletter reported, "Carl Vadivella Belle, Vice President of the Hindu Society of South Australia, has been appointed Hindu Chaplain at Flinders University, where he will officiate along with chaplains from other communities within the Flinders University Religious Centre. This appointment is believed to be the first of a Hindu Chaplain to any university in Australia, and may be a forerunner of other such appointments. It represents growing official recognition of the expanding Hindu population in Adelaide and in Australia generally. Dr. Vadivella's work will include working with Hindu students (especially international students), coordinating specific events, and representing Hinduism at interfaith and information seminars on campus."
