On December 14, 2001, The Los Angeles Times reported, "At Mosque, Relief and Thanks." While members of the King Fahd mosque community were feeling "gratitude," the alleged bomb plot "also set off another round of acrimony between Muslim and Jewish organizations." The article reported that "The Muslim Public Affairs Council called on the Justice Department to freeze the JDL's assets, just as federal authorities recently shut down the Holy Land Foundation" and "the Council on American-Islamic Relations [CAIR] demanded that the Anti-Defamation League [ADL], American Jewish Committee [AJC] and other pro-Israeli groups stop fomenting what it called 'an atmosphere of Islamophobia.'" CAIR cited the ADL and AJC's attempts to bar its members from participating in hearings related to hate crimes. "David Lehrer, ADL regional director, confirmed that his group had attempted to bar the Muslim speakers ... saying these leaders do not clearly and unambiguously condemn terrorism by such organizations as Hamas."
