On October 8, 2004 Sikh News Network reported, "the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced last week that it has filed a federal court lawsuit accusing Sanmina / SCI Corporation, an international electronics manufacturer with facilities in 20 countries, of refusing to rehire an employee because it determined that a symbol of her religion was a 'weapon, which violated company policy.' In its Complaint (EEOC v. Sanmina / SCI Corporation, CIV 04 2000 PHXEHC ), the EEOC alleged that Surinder Kaur, a six-year Sanmina employee and a member of the Sikh religion, was a victim of religious discrimination."
