On May 8, 2002, The Florida Times-Union reported "Priests take closer look at Muslims: Episcopalians visit mosque for a better understanding of Islam." The article explained, "Bishop Stephen Jecko and about 30 clergy members of the Episcopal Diocese of Florida attended a six-hour open house at the mosque in Jacksonville. The clergy wanted to learn more about Islam. ... Some clergy members said hearing from Muslim scholars who live out their faith is much better than learning about the religion from textbooks and the media. 'It's about information sharing and consciousness-raising,' said Jecko, who believes there are many misconceptions about Islam. ... Turk said he met the mosque leader, Imam Zaid Malik, at a children's event last year. The two have met monthly for lunch ever since to discuss their beliefs."
