Rome teens from three churches have had some interesting religious experiences of late through a new program formed by their youth ministers.

John Uldrick of First Baptist Church, Greg Tallant of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and Devon Smyth of First United Methodist Church came together in the fall of 2009 to start the Enterfaith program, and it now continues with visits to various churches, temples and other religious houses in the region and Atlanta.

Tallant, who is youth minister at St. Peter’s, said teens have already visited places like Lovejoy Baptist Church in Rome, a Quaker Friends meeting in Atlanta and a Hindu temple in Lilburn.

And Tallant said so far the program has been a hit with the students, including the visit to the Hindu temple.

“I’ve seen a lot of cathedrals, but the long-term attention to detail and the community involvement,” Tallant said, “it was beautiful.”

Uldrick said his students thought the experience was “intense.”
