On February 27, 2004 AllAfrica.com posted a Daily Trust article that reported, "The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu, has called for a peaceful co-existence and harmonious relations among the divergent ethnic and religious groups in the country, saying that it is Allah that made Nigeria with all her ethnic groups to be one country. The Emir in a statement issued to mark the bicentenary celebrations, explained that Nigeria needs peace at this time as it would enable the leaders opportunity to execute their electoral promises so as to enhance the living standards of the people. According to the royal father, the 1804 fulani jihad, had brought peace, orderliness and development in what is known today as Northern Nigeria, and prayed that the same peace and orderliness should be observed in the country, 'since we have now become brothers and sisters...I urged all religious groups and other ethnic learning, to always look at each other as brothers and sister, we should not look at ourselves based on religion or ethnic group, this will not help us,' he said."
