On June 7, 2004 the Daily Southtown reported,"As members of the steering committee ofthe Southwest Inter-faith Team, we commend the Orland Park village officials for their support for the building of a mosque in their community. In the year we have existed, SWIFT has sponsored dialogues over dinner and presentations by speakers in which Christians, Jews and Muslims have learned about one another's faith traditions and have come to know and appreciate one another. About 200 people have participated in our programs this past year. One founding principle of our group is that understanding one another builds bridges among people, and lack of personal contact breeds fear and bias."
