On October 5, 2004 the Catholic Information Service for Africa reported, "The General Secretary of the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC), Rt Rev Mvume Dandala, has decried the use of religion as a tool for politicians to promote their political agenda. Bishop Dandala, was speaking on Saturday, October 2, 2004, during the opening of the central office of the Program for Christian Muslim Relations in Africa (PROCMURA), in Nairobi, said the lack of understanding and appreciation for other people's religion is responsible for the increasing cases of religious hostilities on the continent... Bishop Dandala said that the attitude of intolerance and the assumption by some religions that they have a monopoly over the knowledge of God has led people to prevent others form worshipping God the way they know, hence causing a religious violation."
