On August 10, 2006 WRAL reported, "A number of area nonprofit and faith organizations plan to hold a public day of prayer Sunday in response to escalating conflict in the Middle East. The Triangle Hope for Middle East Peace Prayer Day will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The event, which will be followed by a reception to promote interaction between people of different faiths and cultures, is free and open to the public. The concept was first discussed between officials with the Raleigh Martin Luther King Committee and the North Carolina Martin Luther King Resource Center."
