On October 1, 2003 The Associated Press reported that "diversity tours" highlighting the religious patchwork of Houston neighborhoods have been drawing large crowds. Organized by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors' Bureau, among the $30 tour's highlights are a Buddhist temple, mariachi church services, and the city's oldest Jewish cemetery. Organizers hope that the tours will increase local interest in cultural diversity. 'The areas that I have lived in have been predominantly white and I now realize how much diversity there truly is,' said 18 year-old Christopher Foster after taking the tour with his wife and infant daughter. 'They told us a heck of a lot of stuff that was in our own backyard that we didn't even know about.'"
