On July 5, 2003 the Philadelphia Daily News reported that "some visitors to Independence Mall were probably surprised to encounter exhibits about Islam and a tent staffed with women in traditional Middle Eastern garb... The Islamic Circle of North America, hosting its national conference in Philadelphia this week celebrated the consitutional protections of religious practice by presenting an Islamic face to Americans... Asim Kahn said a morning ceremony on the mall included the American national anthem and a reading of the Bill of Rights... 'We want to tell Americans that Islam is not a religion that promotes terrorism,' Kahn said. "It promotes love and peace.'"
