On August 27, 2006 Delaware Online reported, "Amrut Patel stood in sock feet before the statues of Hindu gods today and quietly took a picture with his cell phone. 'Whenever I’m feeling sad, I can pull out my phone and look at it and feel calm and peace,' said Patel, 16, of Wilmington. 'I will know it is a place where I can go.' Hundreds of Indian immigrants from across the region joined Patel to celebrate the opening of a new Hindu temple at 344 Churchmans Road, near New Castle. For more than four hours, they feasted and prayed, danced and sang. The temple is the second in Delaware -- another is in Hockessin -- but the first dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, a Hindu holy man of the 18th century, regarded by millions as an incarnation of the divinity. 'Lord Swaminarayan, he didn’t want his saints to go into the Himalayas and do meditation,' said Suketu Patel, a member of BAPS Care International, which owns the new temple. 'He wanted them to go into society and help society and imbue it with Hindu values.' The new temple -- a renovated 84,000-square-foot warehouse in an industrial park -- will provide a Delaware launching pad for such activities."
