On August 9, 2004 Burlington County Times reported that, "a much-debated Indian temple and cultural center proposed for a site on Route 73 moved a step closer to approval during a hearing Thursday night. The township Planning Board, which over the past years has listened to hours of testimony from professionals and neighbors on the proposal, authorized its attorney to draw up a resolution for preliminary site-plan approval for it to review and schedule a vote for its next meeting. The center would be built on 28 acres between Ardsley Drive and Dutch Road. In addition to the 19,427-square-foot octagonal temple and cultural center that would be built at the back of the property, the plans call for a hotel and furniture store to built near Route 73...The cultural center would be associated with a Hindu temple in Berlin Borough, Camden County. According to the applicant, the Hindu Temple Association, the center would be used for weddings, religious ceremonies and religious and cultural courses."
