On September 5, 2004 The Detroit News reported, "parishioners at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church have offered nothing but prayers for the three people charged with causing an estimated $200,000 in damages to their sanctuary... Statues were broken. Fire extinguishers were sprayed everywhere. A cross was turned upside down. Jesus’ face on a banner was given a spray-painted beard. Air conditioning equipment controls were destroyed. And the worst of it all: One of the suspects confessed to urinating in the baptismal font, police said... Today, like every day since the Aug. 31 break-in, members of the 1,200-family parish will include the teens in their Sunday prayers, while trying to move forward from the horrors of the destruction."
