On September 30, 2005 The Hindu reported, "In a bid to foster better understanding of their religion among Americans, the Sikh community has opened the doors of its two newly constructed Gurudwaras for common people. Sikh youths distributed flyers inviting people, including county and police officials, to visit the two shrines in Rockville and North Potomac on Saturday ahead of their formal inauguration. 'This is being done to educate people about their new Sikh neighbours and their traditions,' said Sartaj Singh Dhami of Guru Gobind Singh Foundation. The community has been concentrating on educating fellow Americans about the religion after many turbaned Sikhs with uncut beards were attacked in the racial backlash triggered by the September 11 terror attacks, he said... Apart [from] a detailed tour of the two complex, a short film of Sikhism will also be shown to the visitors and they will get a chance to taste Indian food as well, it said."
