On September 22, 2003 The Journal News reported that tens of thousands of individuals gathered to listen to the Dalai Lama speak in Central Park. The 68-year-old leader of Tibbetan Buddhism spoke on compassion, war, the environment, and the unhappiness of human beings. He opened with a message to the people that "neither color nor faith separated them. 'We are all just human beings,' he said."
