On July 26, 2003 the Toledo Blade reported that "they met in college in Houston, a Hindu from Toledo and a Conservative Jew from Port St. Lucie, Fla. They fell in love, broke the news gently to their devoutly religious parents, and tied the wedding knot - twice - in separate ceremonies in Toledo last weekend... Now Minal and Gary Kopel face the difficult task of preserving two distinct faiths and family heritages in a suburban America 21st century interfaith marriage... The two ceremonies, along with a number of pre-wedding events held all week before the weddings, took a year of planning and were attended by about 450 guests... both said they were glad to take part in the different ceremonies to demonstrate their love and respect for their parents."
